I have now watched my second Woody Allen film. Take the Money and Run is Woody Allen's second film as director and it was released in 1969. Considered one of the first mockumentaries, the film chronicles the many mishaps of petty thief Virgil Starkwell (played by Allen). The film is very funny and really showcases Woody Allen as a master of comedy. Roger Ebert was critical of the film, saying that he expected Take the Money and Run to be funnier than it was.What's Up, Tiger Lily? gave us a great Woody Allen screenplay, but Take the Money and Run goes further with Woody Allen writing, directing and acting in an intelligently crafted comedy.
